“Ok folks… make sure you give this a listen then buy a copy. People always talk about hidden gems, why not look and gather the ones right on the porch next to you? Roger Salloom is the kind of fella you want to break out the guitars and let the dreaming become music.”
Ed Musiak
Track List and Story Behind the Songs:
1. Kiss Me – it is a playful ode to the sensuality of a woman’s corporeality as seen through the eyes of an “energetic” and lustful and frivolous man.
2. Don’t You Push – I was fed up with people being dishonest and passive aggressive with me and others. The third verse, however, derives from the familiar struggle of a person who must be twice as good as the white competitor to prosper.
3. Sleeping On My Knee – sweet safety and frivolous of a child on a grandparent’s or parent’s knee.
A portrait of a guileless child, it is.
4. I’m Free – this is all about the Joy of recovering from a dangerous illness and an acknowledgement of the accidental and surprising nature of physical health. Life is filled with joy and dreadful grief. Mr. Happenstance’s other name is death.
5. Dearest – When Roger’s grandson died Roger was propelled down into the deepest grief a person might ever feel. He wanted to create an admirable remembrance which captured Abe as much as is possible using a song. “There was so so much I wanted tell you about Dearest Abe.” This song is packed with the torrent of memories. If you have lost someone’s so deeply loved, the obverse is deep grief.
